Diff Mount

What is the best way to change out the diff mount.Looking at it I would think you would have to take the weight off of the diff after jacking up the rear end.It looks like there are only 5 or 6 nuts to remove according to my manual.

Put the jack stands on the rear frame rails right at that metal plate that cross bolts to the L&R frame rails. If you have a 79-81 280zx, you can unbolt the half shafts from the stubs at the diff, 82-83 zx's have cv's which will need to be unbolted from the hubs & dropped (IIRC).

Remove the 4 bolts holding on the drive line to diff coupler (this requires 2 people... one to pull the ebrake & release so the other person under the car can turn the drive line to gain access to each of the 4 bolts).

Stick a jack stand under the diff right at the cover, remove the 2 nuts holding the diff mount to the cover. Remove the nut holding the mount to the frame. Get an impact gun & loosen the 4 long bolts holding the nose onto the crossmember (you will have to contort your hands up top w/ a wrench to hold the nuts in place). I suggest using thick gloves & keep your fingers out of the way when you loosen it.

Remove jackstand, watch diff fall.

Technically you don't need to drop the half shafts / cv's to just change the diif mount... but it will be much more of a struggle getting the mount out & back in.

thats how to change the diff nismo, he wants to do just the rear mount?? if your doing just the rear mount, take out the rear carpet and foam, youll see a black box with a little tit on top, thats the mount stud hanging down to the diff. then go under the car and remove the 2 bolts running fwd and aft that hold that box in, and the nut on the bottom of that stud. remove box and stud from inside the car. then remove 2 nuts holding the rear diff mount and change.
