The red wire with the round end goes on the post marked BAT. Sometimes this post has a plastic base to it. The black wire might have an open ended connector. This is the ground. It goes on any of the other little bolts that connect to the alternator housing. it is actually not nessisary. The alternator grounds through hits own base on the engine block, but the wire is there as a backup ground. The L shaped plug can only go in one spot.

Ok i think i got that, so that means the black battery wire goes to the starter motor? I think i might have the battery wires switched.

The black battery wire can go to the base of the starter motor. (could also be called a transmission bolt) Or, it can go to the side of the engine block. (or you can run multiple ground wires)

The battery wire should be too large to connect to the alternator.

Also on the alternator: if you have a resistor plug with two short wire connectors on each end, hook one end under the BAT bolt and the other goes to any ground.
