1982 280zx Driver side door completely seized shut
I’ve been battling with the drivers side door on my 280zx. It won’t open from the inside or the outside. I purchased the car planning on doing a complete restoration. After several hours of using various slim Jim’s and coat hangers I finally gave up that method after I was almost certain I was pulling on the right part. I drilled out the cylinder on the exterior portion of the lock to turn it with a screw driver (as I don’t have the original key). I finally (begrudgingly) cut through the interior door panel so I can see the internals of the door. I can physically pull on the rod that actuates the handle, and can physically move the lock mechanism up but the door still won’t open. I used an air shim and a pry bar to pull the door back slightly and it looks like the latch mechanism is totally seized. I have no idea what my next steps should be. Any advise it greatly appreciated. My current plan of action, if I can’t think of anything else to do, is to grind through the door and completely cut it off and replace it with a new (used) door. I would like to avoid that but I’ve been working on this damn door for about 8 hours now 😂
