Remove the paint

Remove the paint
Just got a 80zx, that has the Original Iron Cross rims.
the problem is there is at least 2 coats of paint on them. A ugly bronze color, and a silver on top of that.
My question is
1. How to tell if the rims had color to begin with.
2. How to remove the color without damaging the rims.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome to ZDriver!
Got any pics? If your car is a 1980 10th Anniversary Edition, then it's likely the stock paint unless someone repainted them. As for removing the paint... media blast.

looks like someone tried to imitate AE wheels. the silver might be anodizing. I'd try metal polish in a small area and see what you get. polished up they would look good except for the curb rash. too bad the center caps are gone.
