Rack and openion
Ok
there is a reason I spelled the title the way I did. First I would like to start off by asking a question. What year did rack and pinion apear on the z? I was joined by the notion that it was 1981 wich was zx right?
the opinion, is that my alignment instructor made a valid point of why rack and pinion was a more desirable system than good old manule, but insisted that it was plane out better. in some ways, maybe so, but as a red blooded american, I choose to use a little american mussle. Fact and openion get too mixed up these days, but this guy was sold to it.
If I am not mistaken didn't the good old z's have a little problem with the rack and pinion sys. like the mount or somthing like that going loos?

When I did my turbo swap into my 81... I had to take out the pitman arm steering system & put in the rack & pinion. It has a quicker steering ratio & feels much more "sports-car-ish"
79 had manual rack and pinion with optional power assist
1980 had power assist
1981 had piman full power steering
82-83 went back to power assist rack.
Strange way to do things, huh?
1978 and older cars all had a manual rack and pinion steering system.
1970-73 240Z
1974 260Z
1975-78 280Z
1979-83 280ZX
1984-89 300ZX
1990+ who cares
