Front Brake Calipers

Does Anybody Know If The Toyota 4wd Truck (1980) 4 Piston Calipers Will Fit On The Front Of Our Cars Or Is That Just The Older Z's That Get That Great Option.

no, NO, NO!

The Toyota truck calipers fit only the S30 models. Only 1970-78. only 240Z, 260Z, 280Z.

They do not fit the 280ZX or 300ZX or 350Z or Honda Civic.

Interesting note: those same calipers DO fit the 1978-79 Datsun 620 truck like what I have. Likewise, the 240Z stock calipers will also fit the 620 truck.

They do bolt up to the 280zx strut, but the spindle is too short & the new caliper will hit the inside spokes of the rim. You will need spacers to make them fit on the 280zx.

If All I Need Is Spacers Then It Could Still Work Yes/no. I Have A Milling Machine To Play With So It Will Comply

Was there an answer to the spacer question? Will that work?

Yes... Toyota 4piston calipers do bolt up to the 280zx strut... but yes, you need a spacer (I think at least 1.5") to clear the caliper. You will prolly need to get some SS brake lines to connect the new caliper...

So I've qot a question on this caliper swap: Since almost all of what I've read on the internet about this swap deals with the S30 cars I couldnt find anything on this: But when we're talking spacers here, are we talking about wheel spacers or spacers for the caliper bracket? Do the toyota calipers just bolt right up to our existing mounting points and it's the wheel that cant clear the calipers? Or is there more to it then that?

It Is Caliper Spacers, The Bolt Pattern Is The Same It Just Needs A Little Adjustment Height Wise.

Well thats a piece of cake. And a lot cheaper than buying wheel spacers. Now does anyone know if the stock wheels will clear the toyota calipers? I read on another site that on the S30 cars you can put the 280zx wheel on it will clear the toyota calipers. But that doesnt neccessarily mean they'll clear on our cars.

hey shady so are u actually in the process of doing this as we speak? So the spacer is push the caliper back so that it lines up with the rotor correct?

You sure? From my calculations & test fits, the toyota caliper bolts right in place to fit over the rotor (same bolt patern as the 280zx), but when you put the rim on, the back side of the rim hits the front face of the caliper..... so if you get wheel spacers, the rim will sit far enough out to not hit the caliper.

I went to the local Pick n Pull to do this... I pulled a toyota caliper & fit it on the 280zx.... but the rim won't go back on, as it hits the caliper.

so it goes actually bolt up? Running wheel spacers isnt all that bad. But does the rotor line up and everything?

As far as my junk yard experiment went: yes. Tho you might need to use washers between the caliper & strut to get it absolutely in line.... just some fine tuning.

How much would you say the wheel was off Nismo? I mean is it going to neccessitate a spacer wide enough to push the wheel outside the fender? I know the wheel sits a little inside as it is so a small clearance issue would be all right. But if the wheel is going to stick out the fender then it's not just the spacer I have to worry about. It's either new wheels or widening the fenders. Or I could just look stupid cruising down the street with my wheels hanging out all wide in the front

Shibby... It's been about a year since I did the measurements, but it was ABOUT 1" to 1.5" clearance needed. After doing that experiment, I bought a set of honda wheel adapters from a guy on Got-Z for $150 (about $90 cheaper than the maker "Modern Motorsports"). I haven't put them on yet, as I am still looking for the perfect rim. 1" shouldn't make the stock rims stick out beyond the fender lip.

I've been considering this upgrade for a long time now. So, since I have the 17" FWD offset wheels with hub adapters... I should be able to do the swap no problem right?

Rod.
