Driveshaft swap

I just got my replacement driveshaft, and was wondering if anyone out there had tips for changing it out. Those four bolts aren't the easiest things to get to.

actually they are failry easy unless you have a heat shield in your way or the exhaust pipe right underneath it. . what I did was remove heatshield ( if aplicable in your situation) should be a couple of 10mm bolts

then losen teh downpipe bolts so you can bring the exhaust pipe down to the ground. OR if you have a Catalatic converter you shoul dbe able to remove the rear pipe by there. the bolts on driveshaft should be either 12 or 14 if i remember correctly; .but im leaning toward 12.

spray on some WD40 or 3 in 1 oil and loosen them you shouyld be ble to remove them by hand. then just put the car in neutral and rotate the driveshaft as you remove the bolts. " WATCH YOUR HEAD " as the shaft can come down on you if you dont hold on to it

hope this helps

When you pull the driveshaft out of the transmission all the oil will come out if you have not drained it already.

the bolts should be 12 but you will need 2 box wrenches. if i recall if you jack up the rear end and put blocks to the front wont move no oil should spill out of the tranny. get rid of that wd40...not meant to loosen bolts go get some pb blaster or some type penetrating oil. its better to leave the tranny in gear so when you break the bolt lose you dont have worry about slamming your hand in the floor. then u just slap it in neutral and twist to the next bolt and put it back in a higher gear.

Okay, that's about what I figured, I've been spraying some penetrating oil on it. I've found that the bolts are a bit softer than they used to be. I had the same problem with the oil drain plug. Ohio can be pretty rough on cars. So, it's just a matter or breaking the bolts loose without rounding them off and it will slide right out. Cool. Thanks fellers.

Oh yeah, I remember when I did this a few times. lol Had to remove it for doing the motor swap. And the clutch job. Then after all that. I had to do it, to replace the driveshaft! lol Anyway it wasn't too hard for me to do. Just tedious, removing the cat heat shield, then the exhaust. Then for my tranny, I put a thick plastic bag rubber banded, to keep the gear oil inside. But being that the car was up enough. No gear oil, really tried to come out. Anyway good luck, and let us know how it went.
