Angry Axle Stub Movement

Hey, so I've had my 280zxt for about 3 and a half years and only in the past month have I had this problem. At first, the car made the worst noise I've ever heard, every time the wheel rotated. I quickly went home and told my dad who has tried to fix it with no success. The axil stub at first had some play in it, kinda of wobbling when spun. We took the stub to a shop to be fitted to new wheel bearing because they were worn down so much. Still the same problem persists. Instead of wobbling the axil stub now rhythmical pushes in a out around a fourth of an inch. The sound is most likely the brake caliber being moved in and out. Any help? We have no idea what to do.

Welcome to ZDriver!

I wouldn't be surprised if it damaged the control arm... but if you took it to a shop and they didn't fix it, take it back to them and ask them to fix it CORRECTLY this time.

Would there be noticeable signs for either of those? Besides the obvious movement.

You'd have to check it with a measuring caliper.

And now that I think about it, it's more likely a warn / damaged stub.
I had that happen on my Geo Metro a few years ago... it wobbled when I bought it, and when I yanked it out it was visibly worn:

I'll definitely look into getting a new stub or some how fixing the old cause mine looks pretty worn haha. Thanks for the help! Hopefully I can get this fixed soon!

I had one the bearings tried to eat.... had to replace the whole stub. Good luck finding those - they can be tough to find. The 240Z guys use them for CV conversions....

Does it sound like a creaking or squeaking sound when moving? Generally in relation to speed?
