81 zx half shaft replacement.
Hi just bought an 81 280zx. Noticed spinning up the driveway my passenger side Half shaft is shot 1/4 of slop on the outer universal. This looks easy to fix. But as a previous Fiat owner got that funny feeling that there is hidden surprise in store. a spline going into the pumpkin? A c clip inside the diff to remove?. it is an r-200 rear. Looks simply like 8 bolts to remove. So i am at your mercy don't want to rip into something and have the car stuck in the garage.

Welcome to ZDriver, and to Z ownership!
Indeed half shaft removal is simple. Spray some PB Blaster on the 8 nuts & let them soak for a few. Then, remove the 8 nuts & pull out the shaft. You may need to spin the tire a bit to get a wrench up in there. That's the most tedious part. If you have a friend to pull & release the ebrake, even better.

Thanks alot. Got the part ordered 63.90 with a 20.00 core. 7-10 days to get though so its parked. Love how cheap these 280s are to fix! Pep- boys wanted 149 for the part and 289.00 to install.

Yea feel like an idiot asking that question. Didnt even jack the car up Had a bud push it back to gain entry to the bolts. got a lil nervious and a simple tap of a hammer and it just fell out. " Needle bearings all over the floor also lol"

i think you have already got this part installed. but if for some reasion you have not. ot you did not do this. Make sure you use lock tight on the bolts. i've had a hell of a time with the bolts on my R180 half shafts. I thought R200 used CV axles? If i am not mistakin. R180 has half shafts with bolts on both ends. R200 uses CV axles with 6 bolts on tire side, other just slides into rear.
