280zx Parts Compatibility

Hello all. I am brand new to the Z car scene and to working on cars in general. I've been doing a lot of research on parts for my 1981 280zx and i noticed there aren't a lot of parts made specifically for zx cars. For instance i want to replace my exhaust system, but i don't just want to replace it. I want to upgrade it to a better one. When i search for '280zx exhaust systems' i notice a lot of parts for 280z. i was wondering if 280z parts were interchangeable on a 280zx chassis. Thanks in advance and sorry if i sound a bit uneducated. I'm using this car to learn more about fixing cars in general.

Welcome to ZDriver!

Nope, the S30 (240Z-280Z) chassis is very different than the S130 (280ZX). The only similar / like items are engine, transmission, and differential.
If you want an upgraded exhaust, just stop by a local trusted exhaust shop and have them fab up a 2.5" system for you... which will cost less than any "box kit" you can buy, and it will be just as efficient, and probably come with a labor warranty.

Thank you! Yeah i noticed there aren't a lot of aftermarket parts for the S130 chassis. I probably will go to a shop for my new exhaust. i appreciate the quick response!
