Cool Window Idea

I was looking through all the MSA pics and after seeing a few 2+2's an idea came to me. I like the fact that the quarter glass on the 2+2's open. I think it would be cool to have functioning windows like that on our coupes. I think I read that some of the 2+2's came with power quarter glass windows, is that true? I think I would like to modify my quarter glass to do this but I would not want them to be the manual one's since I have power windows (so they match, I would want powered quarter windows).

I have never heard of or seen this on a coupe so what are some of your thoughts on this? On the mechanics of it, I don't see why it could not be done. I assume I would need the motors, weather striping, some kind of hinge and I am sure this could be modified from a 2+2 to fit the coupe. I am going to check into this a bit more and see all what's involved, if it can be done and still look factory then I will do it and get some pics in here of it. This just might be a fun project with a cool outcome.

They weren't electric powered, but hand cable activated. The 82 - 83 280zx 2+2 had these cables w/ the lever just behind the center console. It would take a bit of fabbing to make the 2seater windows open like that, since they are bolted & sealed to the window frame.

Very true, but I am a man with a vision....after seeing pics of that 240 with the 350Z interior....nothing is impossible.

You know that's funny, I have had this idea ever since I got my '81 back in '00. Just never followed up on it. Keep us informed if you figure something out. That would be dope to have the quarter windows open.

Yeah those quarter windows that open are pretty nice at times. Especially when it's raining or something, that way you can crack those windows a little and get some air, or on the freeway and stuff.

Maybe even I will experiment with my '81. And get some hinges from a 2 + 2. And somehow fabricate them so they can open and close the quarter windows. It would definately be one of a kind. Hey thxone, I am a Zman with a vision also. Good luck to both of us.

hey man heres some insight, use parts from a dodge caravan, the have power rear opening windows that are similar to the 2+2 and are compact motor units. just go to the scrapper and pick some up, there are plenty of those out there

I think it's a great idea, though I'd just be worried about water seeping in and building up behind the upholstery back there. Be sure to examine if the 2+2 has any kind of drip rail or something to deal with water around the opening rear windows.

Yeah getting around water seepage would be a bitch. That'd be the only long term concern of mine. My Z's not exactly weather proof as it is

Thats what I'm saying. Finding a Z in a yard can be difficult. But a caravan? Try to find a yard that doesn't have a damn caravan
