Speedometer not working properly...
Speedometer not working properly...
Hey guys. So I just pulled the dash on the 280zx to fiberglass it and do some custom work since it looks like *** at the moment, and in order to do that I had to pull the speedometer. I unplugged everything being careful not to rip the board on the back of the gauges, and after the dash was out I put the speedometer back in so that I could continue to drive the car without a dash. Well since doing that, I have noticed that my speedometer is no longer accurate. I can be doing prolly 15 mph and the gauge will read 30. It's annoying, especially when you live in a town full of cops that will pull you over for doing 6 over, so I would really like to know my accurate speed.
I disconnected everything from the back, and plugged it back in, but it made no difference. I checked the speedo cable back to the firewall, and there are no kinks or anything. I made sure I pushed it in all the way before turning the cover to lock it in, again making no difference.
Any help? All other gauges work and are accurate...

there is like a plastic insert between the short cable that attaches to the back of the speedo and the long cable that goes to the tranny. If that is not in there speedo don't work too good. Look around the floor or if you found some plastic piece you didn't know what to do with - thats it. Hope you didn't find it trash it and they already picked up the garbage cause then you got to go to pull a part and find one.
If that isn't it be sure you didn't somehow dislodge, kink or otherwise disturb the long cable to the tranny.

the long square type wire inside the wire needs to be carefully put back inside hte speedo now lets say u tryed to spin that " sqaure " cable then that is the only way u will get a inacurate reading trust me.. take off the dash again or... go under neather the drivers side pull off the cord attached to the speedo then try to unwind or rewind it.. its a pain in the *** to get it right agian trust me !
