Heater Control problem

On my 83 ZX that I am restoring, I have the automatic climate control. I can not change the location of air low. No mater where I slide the contol, It all blows out under the dash. I cannot get flow through the dash vents or to defrost vents. Am I missing a vacuum line attachment ?? Manual cable off?? I would like to have some ideas before tearing into the dash. Charlie

All the vents are controlled by vacuum from the intake manifold (unless it's a turbo, then it's controlled by vacuum tank).

There should be 2 small tubes coming from the firewall inbetween your battery & engine... locate them & make sure they are connected w/ no cracks. FYI... vents won't change if engine not running (no vacuum... no suckie suckie)

auto climate controls are bad. This is a common problem.
My 82 non-turbo has a vac tank, I wonder if I'll need to change anything when I drop in the turbo engine... 'if' I drop in the turbo engine.

I got the entire system from a '79 car in the wrecking yard. That's where I made my world famous 5 minute ZX dash removal.

I guess you don't need all thos parts, but I've got 'em all. Another one of my many projects. I'm leary to tear my car down that far as its my daily driver and only 4-passenger car to take my daughter places in... maybe some day.

Ah but see heres the real thing about removing is seeing what is missing from your car and seeing if anything is differnt on the car your trying to take apart. and 5 minutes bleach dang I think the fastest ive done it is 8 and that was fast to me.

That day I went to the yard I had to go pick up my daughter at a certain time. So once I got to the yard I figured I had a total of 25 minutes to pull all the parts I wanted for the day, buy them and be back on the road. I was on a rampage tearing that car apart. I was watching the clock every couple minutes too so that's why I remembered how fast i tore that dash off. (that even includes removing the steering wheel)

Heh, I just went under the dash of my ZX with auto climate control and zip-tied the actuators (or whatever) so that the air permanently flows where I want it.
