I recently purchase a two tone 1980 ZX. It is Blue and Silver and the owner claimed it to be a special edition Dallas Cowboy Z. Does anybody know if this is rare or how many were made?

 

not rare at all. they are very common to have the silver/blue paint scheme.

 

My wife had one. I don't know how many were made.

1980 I believe. They were sold in the Dallas area (obviously) and came from either Courtesy Nissan or Bankston Nissan...which were Datsun dealers at the time.

 

I've been looking at picture after picture and have only seen 1 other one. What do you think the value of this car is (good shape with no rust).? I gave $3500

 

Price is relative.... if you think it's a good price... then it is.

How many miles does it have? And no rust? I highly doubt that unless it's always been garaged & never driven in rain/snow. I personally wouldn't pay $3500 for a stock 280zx... I wouldn't even pay that much for a 280zx turbo... but others might.

From what I can gather, the "Cowboys Edition" was just a marketing tool used by the dealerships to sell more cars. It wasn't an official release from Nissan.

 

+1 I doubt they care too much about the Dallas Cowboys in Japan....

 

i seem to recall someone asking about a "Seahawks Edition" a while back. i believe it had the same coloring. it was'nt anything Nissan/Datsun did, just the dealership trying to sell more cars.

This is just about finished with its restoration down here in Houston.

It is rare, and it is valuable. it was only a dealer promo, but in Texas it is a head-turner. This will not depreciate in value over its continued lifespan.

And welcome to an uber old thread... that seems like was brought back to life to advertise a non-existent "rare" version of the 280zx? Hum... no one seems to have any "Cowboy 280zx" paperwork.

 

I could call mine a cowboy edition. Maybe get a couple hundred extra for it if I sell it

 

You probably wouldn't get that from a Redskins or Giants fan. They would probably want a discount.

 

There is a Seattle Seahawks Z but it's a 280Z IIRC not a ZX....

My Z started its life with the cowboy colors... but now its a RAIDER!!!!

i scrapped a silver and blue 2+2 zx up here, its just paint up here, no sports team advertising for us.

 

I'm actually looking for one of these my dad bought me. Did anyone buy one at an estate sale back in late 2003/early 2004 in Amarillo, TX? I'm not sure if people still look at this site but if the owner of the one im looking for sees this please reach out to me! My dad passed when i was 11 in 2003 and bought this car when i was born to give me when i turned 16. Unfortunately my uncle sold it and pocketed the money. I intend to find it and offer to buy it back.
