Analog clock replacement.

Analog clock replacement.
So the clock on my center cluster doesn't work (like on all zx's, apparently). I like the idea of keeping it a clock in that spot, and I definitely prefer the analog look of the original. Anyone have any ideas for replacing it? Speedhut has a 2" clock that looks close - but 2 inches is a touch small, and the $60 price tag kinda sticks in my craw. I'm not having much luck finding other options.
Is there any chance a local repair shop could fix the original?

Go to a couple of salvage yards .. You might be able to find a working one for cheap..or you can always use ebay..

I found this site as well: http://videstudio.com/DClock.htm A $30 gamble might be worth it, assuming I don't find anything better (and it doesn't need any parts that are hard to find).

try finding one for the 1979-1980.. they came with analog clocks...

That's just it - no way I want to spend $145 for a cluster when even if the clock works on it, probably won't for long.

since it doesn't work anyway why not pull it apart and see if you see anything obvious like corroded broken wires. my friends dad has had luck getting them running but I don't know what he does and he has some electonic experience. depends on the junkyard up here in seattle you can get the cluster for like 10 20 dollars. analog clock might just need some electroclean sprayed in there to get the gunk out of the moving parts.

It's out right now. I'd need to desolder the leads in order to pull off the clear rear casing, but everything I can see is super clean & whole. If I had to guess, I'd say there's a blown cap or resistor or something . . . but my electronics skills are rudimentary at best, so not something I could diagnose myself.

That's crazy, that people say the clocks quit on the Zx's. In every one of my Z's, my clock's have never quit. I had problems with the other 2 gauges in the cluster. lol Of course I do have digital clocks. Though I do plan on putting the one analog clock I have in the car. Because it would be different. Good luck with your find man.

You might want to go to places where they repair Amps for car stereos.. Some places can give you a free qoute on thore amps, maybe they would be willing to look at the clock for you.. Its worth a shot

Took it all apart . . . found a stripped plastic gear inside the main assembly:
Now, where the hell to find a replacement. And hope that's all that's wrong.
