I might jump in and do a front Z31 swap like this.... hmmm... but to keep your camber in check you can't run bumper steer spacers... too bad I don't have coilovers or I could run spacers and then just use Technotoytuning camber plates.

Wasn't about 16 feet of that container taken up by a ZXR?

So it looks like this is what we need, someone correct me if you understand differently, and feel free to chime in Frank

We need 2 parts from the 86 Turbo, or any 87-89. The strut assembly, and the steering knuckle. After hooking those up for both sides at the stock points without modification, just take it to the tire shop and get an alignment job.

And thats it? 15-minute 5lug bigbrake swap?? Only other question I have if all this is correct, is which brake lines are used?

thanks, rxKaffee

I might do this soon too.
I was looking at the rear of the Z31 (1987 with vented rotors) and the a-arms will not bolt to the S130 crossmember. The Z31 crossmember is wider and won't bolt into the 280ZX. The hubs are a different type and won't bolt into the 280ZX a-arms.
so, basically there is no bolt-in rear brake upgrade that I can see. Drilling out the stock 280 rotors for 5-lug or doing a custom caliper bracket with the Z31 rotor in place are the only way.

The LSD is an R200. It bolts in to any R200 equipped car.

the 5 lug 300zx hubs should bolt into the 280zx control arm, while your there replace the bearings, you still need a brake adapter kit or something, i cant remember what ross does, but at least the hub solves the 5 lug conversion part

no, you only swap the diff on the LSD conversion. The hubs and axels have nothing to do with limited slip.

can you do that, i thought they'd have different splines and things. So your saying i can keep the 4 lug if i wanted to? I'd rather have the five's though, more universal and more strength, or one would think.

I have a Z31T LSD in my 280zxt... I am still using the stock 79-81 half shafts. You'll never see any "strength" improvements by converting to 5 lug unless you are going to be doing some hard core WRC offroading. The main reason for the 5 lug hub swap is for a wider range of brake & wheel upgrades.

Someone over at Hybridz made a custom braket to use some Z31 rotors, I think there about an inch bigger?

ya, I think I saved those pics to my computer. He made a custom bracket, but I dont' think he's making custom brackets to sell.
I'd have to make one with no welder and just a sawzall as a cutting device... I'm not so sure about that. But, I do have a complete spare rear assembly so I can work on this outside of my car. (in the living room of my apartment?) hehe...
Then just swap the whole crossmemeber and diff all in one big chunk!

ive never tried to make any brake stuff, but i got a beater to drive now, so the upgrades will be sweet, i got different front calipers now, out of a 4wd toyota 4runner. they need to have s12 er something stamped on them. the rear will indeed be a challenge. i need a lsd first, gotta find a dang z31 tho.
