What kind of Carb?

Re: What kind of Carb?
There are two (major) types of carbs on 240s - dome and flat tops - both are called SU carbs. The dash pots (which are the tops of the carbs, and have a black **** that can be turned on them) will either be domed, or have a squared off top. The domed carbs are on '72 and earlier cars. The flat tops are on '73 and later cars. The domed carbs are supperior, but were changed to emmisions requirements.
EFI = electronic fuel injection. A fuel injected car does not have carbs, so there is no such thing as EFI carbs.
Both set ups have their advantages. I'd opt for trying to make your current carbs work, and if they don't try to get an older SU set-up.

Yes, it's possible, but more work. An older SU will bolt directly to your current set up. The best bet would be to find a set of 240 carbs, the intake, and air cleaner. However finding the full set up can be hard. The best bet would be to buy rebuilt carbs, but they sell for $600 at Motorsports Auto or ZTherapy.
Yours may work fine. A little carb cleaner goes a long way.

oh cool thanks. And would you prefer a 240Z engine over a 260z engine? Or would i be best getting a 280z engine. I am about ready for a new engine, this one is giving up on me.

Re: What kind of Carb?
Some people do put in a 2.8L engine and use the dual SU carbs from a 240Z. That runs very good. Gives a lot more torque than a 2.4L 240Z engine and a bit more than your 2.6L
as far as the 2.4L fuel injection, they are probably trying to tell you that the 1977-80 Datsun 810 and 1981-84 Datsun Maxima use a inline 2.4L engine just like the 240Z but it is running EFI. You can put the whole intake and wiring harness from that car into your Z to get the fuel injection setup. But, if you put that onto a 2.8L engine be sure to use the computer and Air Flow Meter from a 280Z or 280ZX that way you have the proper amount of fuel going in.
The carbs will not give you as much torque as the EFI. The EFI should be much more trouble-free once it is all set up, but that is usually the difficult part. Carbs are easier to change and swap around. Fuel injection is a little complicated and requires some preparation during the swap. On the high rpms, the carbs will give some more power, but that is only comprared to a stock fuel injection setup. There are a few tweaks you can do to get your fuel injection good for RPMs in excess of 5000.
