What do y'all think of this car?

Found this 260 on Ebay....and since the car is only a half hour away, drove over to check her out. Very nice! Not a show car- there are small flaws on the body and in the interior- but very good condition especially compared to many Zs around here. Talked to owner and apparently the car was restored by a guy in Kentucky several years and has been driven sparingly since. the paint job was a metallic blue and looked to be a decent job (pics don't do her justice).

I figure new (smaller) bumpers, lowered suspension, and maybe bigger rims...and the car is ready...

He said the reserve is $4K. Sounds very reasonable.....but I wanted to get the opinions of all the Z experts on here before I pull the trigger....

4k is a great price for that. though that later model 260 is probably the least desirable of the S30's it looks great and if the pictures do it justice i say 4k is a near steal

Yeah it has the big, bulky bumpers unlike the early 260s. It is a beautiful car and unlike my 240, EVERYTHING works even the electric antenna like your 280. Well, the heater doesn't work but I'd probably never drive it in cold weather anyway. Also it has the bell-top carbs too instead of the dreaded flat-tops it came with.

bell tops? SU's you mean?

yea the paint looks good, it looks like alot of minor things like cleaning up the under side, cleaning up some edges under the hood. wheels are to be desired but theyre generic though.

why not eh? insurance is cheap on em right?

Yeah my insurance on the 240 is like $40 every six months!

Yeah I meant the SUs....the non-crappy ones. Anyway y'all don't know how hard it is to find a good, clean Z in Illinois. Most of the good ones are on the west coast....like that 280 in Oregon, but I don't feel like forking out over $1,000 for shipping. PLus its nice to look at them in person first.

Don't know what I'll do with the 240 if I buy this one though....only have so much room. I mean how many Zs do you need? Then again, I'd still have fewer Zs than Nismo, lww, and others....so who knows?

See y'all have it made! Illinois is definitely the black hole for Z cars...heck, even the 260 I'm looking at is originally a southern car.

they are ALL hitachi SU carb's but there were the bell tops and the flat top versions and also different variations of the bell and flat tops. 3 screw bell tops are the best.

If you buy the car, take that Motorcraft oil filter and throw it away! I ran a Motorcraft once, and it exploded. Check it out...

Other than that, it seems like a really nice car. Especially since it has round tops.

I agree Justin. The first thing I'd do is change the oil and put a Wix or K&N filter on there...

you seriously arent going to let one bad filter turn you off to a specific company, theres going to be bad units and they cant test every single one because then they would all be used.

i dont know how many quaker state branded wix filters i put on that had no threads, as you can imagine that doesent make for a right seal.

but changing oil in 40+ cars a day some times your bound to run into some defects
