Tuning tips
Hi, i'm about to tune my car up as it has been running a bit rough lately, and i will be doing points, gaps, timimg and tuning the carbs. I plan to follow what it says in the haynes manual with respect to tuning it, is this a good idea? I've heard of the Z-therapy video(heard good things) is it really worth me buying, even though i live in australia?
Are there any other tips anyone has before i take this on?
Thanks

Re: Tuning tips
Hey Alan
I'm an L28 with E88 and twin 3-screw SUs, same as you right?
I always start doing the valves...you'll need a 17 and a 14mm spanner and a 1 and a 1/4 inch socket to turn the front pully...or jack and wind the back wheel.
Anyway....first pull out the plugs and check the colour....if your mixture is about right it's best not to much around with the carbs too much....I set mine up about 6 months ago and everytime I pull the plugs they're perfect. then do the valves....then pull the points out and check the surfaces are flat...if not either file and adjust (bend) then so they sit flat or get some new ones...thy're really cheap. Then set the points gap at 50...put it all back together and go for a drive. If the plugs are not sandy grey kinda coloured then you might want to check the back page of yer manual...only turn 1/4 turn on the mixture adjust....looking down on the carb turn the nuts anticlockwise to make it rich and v.v
oh, and don't set your plugs too wide...0.8 is fine...you've got a ballast resistor right? Also, do you index yer plugs...mine (I think) runs a lot better with all the plug faces facing the top of the cylinder....anyway...that was my brain dump...start with the valves....

Re: Tuning tips
Yep that's me, and yeah that was the plan. My carbs are running waaaayy to rich, and the car is running generally bad. I don't need to do anything to the timing cahin sprocket do i for adjusting the valves? How do you make it so the plugs are facing in one direction? Just allign them in a certain way when screwing them in? Thanks for the reply
