rear end swap
rear end swap
how difficult would it be to swap an 82 280zx rear end (diff, cv shafts, possibly control arms and brakes) into a 280z? I was at a rally school this weekend and my rear end is all clunky and rackety and noisy. i know that the zx's has cv shafts in the rear, so that would be desirable. and as long as i was at it, it would be nice to take the brakes so i could have rear discs. or is there a different rear end that would work better (300zx)? or am i wasting my time?
If you are swapping an R200 into a car with an R200... it's a direct fit. But swapping actual differential pumpkins isn't going to solve the "clunk." The clunk is caused by a worn out half shaft and/or diff mount.
true dat no need to swap **** just fix the clunk you wont gain anything by attempting the swap you said other than a speedo that no longer reads the proper speed haha. also you mentioned brakes i assume you wanted the rear disc's ? yeah wont work sorry!
ok. the clunks and rattles i was talking about are from worn bushings and such, and i was just wondering if the suspension on a zx was any more robust than that on a 280z. i need to fix my differential clunk (plan on fabbing a r/t diff mount) and replace probably all of the rubber in the rear end with urethane. oh and do struts and springs all the way around. thanks for the replys!
