Open dash vent in my '77
I can't get the center vent in my '77's dash to close or warm up. Not bad in the spring or fall, but it sucks in the winter. Can anyone out there explain to me how to fix this problem, so I can enjoy driving my car all year long?

Re: Open dash vent in my '77
I took my dash out yesterday to add the AC stuff I had on a spare parts car. I noticed that the centre dash vent is opened and closed by one of the rods that runs just about where your passengers left leg would rest if u know what i mean,(LHD). Have a look in that area under the dash behind the centre console. See if the rod is connected as it should be. You can at least close that vent from there.

I may be able to help, Is your heater just not getting very warm? I had a non working heater in my 260z which was caused by a piece of hose which was way too long for what it was needed to do. As such the hot water had bent it and made it like a garden hose that's been bent and therefore no water went through.
I also had the same problem in my 89 Corolla which I use as a daily driver I replaced my thermostat and the engine got warmer but the heater stayed very cold. Found that the hose had bent maybe due to the sudden hot water which is hadn't had in ages whatever the case I trimed the bent bit off and works perfect now.

Actually, everything warms up fine except the center dash vent. It appears to be pulling outside air into the car. I put tape over it last winter but thats almost 50% of the airflow into the car so it really depleats the air conditioning and the heat/defrost.
