Re: OIL PRESSURE HELP
looks like ur oil pressure sender is dead
get a new oil pressure sender, they usually break with age, can get from ur nissan dealer, or junk yard, or MSA or not sure about zparts.com...
and if it still doesn't read on the guage, get another guage and test the guage..
best bet to do also, is get a cheap manual oil presure guage, from ur local auto store, usally like $10 bucks for the cheapest one....

Re: OIL PRESSURE HELP
Are you sure? didn't he say they hooked up a manual oil pressure guage?
I think he is telling us his engine really only has 10 psi ! That is not good. if so, you might need a rebuild. Most likely place to loose pressure is the bearings on your crankshaft, right?

Re: OIL PRESSURE HELP
10lbs is not uncommon on an older z engine at idle. as long as it comes up to 50lbs or so.. On a fresh engine with a turbo oil pump (more flow than oil pump that comes with an n/a engine) you should see almost 90lbs.
The senders on these cars are terribly inaccurate, and with age, are prone to fail.

Re: OIL PRESSURE HELP
When I went to synthetic oil my gauge really read low.
I kept opening the oil filler hole and checking for oil
on the top end
I think 10 psi isn't to bad on an older engine like ZR8ED
said. Did they run the RPMs up to see if the gauge went
higher then 10psi ?

Re: OIL PRESSURE HELP
Well, ok. If you say so.
My n/a ZX has 202,000 miles and I'm using the original oil pump. I did put in a new sender unit but my pressure is in the middle of the gauge at idle and near 80 at higher rpm. Same thing with the other ZX I had. Both cars had a bad sender. It is true that it goes out a lot. $50 from Nissan.
I hope that it is only a bad sender and not actually an oil pressure problem. If the engine is not knocking, then you're probably ok.
