New to ZDriver
Hello Z Drivers!
I have just recently purchased a non running 1972 240z. The car belonged to a family friend who bought it new, then parked it in his basement in 97. It has 111k miles with a four speed and according to the previous owner, the l24 ran when he parked it.
I have begun the restoration by prepping and por15-ing the rust underneath the battery tray. There is a small rust hole in the left front fender and some digging in the passenger footwell revealed a few small holes and a lot of surface rust. I have removed the gas tank to find that it will need to be boiled out and sealed.
I wrenched on the crankshaft to find that the motor turned freely! I bought a battery and connected it and all the lights and radio worked as well. I ran a fuel line to a gerry can and cranked it and it did not start, but it did fire!
I plan to continue rust repairs, however boring and tedious it may be. I also plan on attempting to rebuild the dual SU carbs.
Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
