Need help with tank resto
Hi
I have a gas tank from a 70 that has been sitting around for over a year, and I would like to prep it for use. It has no gas in it (maybe residue), only minor surface rust at seams, and is layered in undercoating. I am going to strip it, and then repaint it. But I need help with the inside of the tank, what should I do interms of cleaning and protecting?
Thanx

Re: Need help with tank resto
You might have to have the inside checked for rust. It's very probable that with no gas or anything in there, the unprotected metal achieved surface or flash rust just from exposure to the air and humidity. If so, you might be better off a) having it taken care of professionally or b) get a tank resto kit from the folks at POR-15. This takes care of just about everything you might have to worry about. It includes the cleaner, metal prep and sealer. It will take a few days, but the results are worth it.
