Im a NEWB here and would appreciate some help on my build

alright so i have a 74 260z and everything is stock which im not planning on keeping for awhile. I do not want to swap the L26 out but just make it faster.

I was wondering if anyone of you know if the "p90" head and 280zx oil pump will fit on the L26???

another question i have is to upgrade the SU carbs as well but everyone has the 3 weber DCOE set up so I am planning to go the other way. what other set up would produce some power???

any ideas on where i can get some lowering springs that will drop my car 3in. or more???

if you have any ideas on how to make the L26 faster.... all ideas are welcome but if your just going to tel me to swap then no thanks..... well at least not yet......

PLEASE HELP

Welcome to ZDriver!

Yes... all major components of the L-Series motor are interchangeable as long as you use the appropriate related components to make it function properly.

Good reads on L Heads:

Normal "performance" springs will lower the car about 1" from stock. 3" would require either cutting the springs, or going coil over.

Thank you for the info of the link you gave me it was very helpful to make my decision on going for the N42 head.... i really appreciate it.

another question if anyone can answer this. What would i need to get and do to swap in an N42 head to an L26 block??? like oil pump and other parts???....... which way should i go???? the way of the 3 weber carbs.... or the 4 barrel carb set up??? which one will get me not just more HP but torque.....

you are asking for to much on those carbs, no one can tell you but both are a comparable upgrade. as for the head you just need a complete head and I'd do the timing chain and new head bolts/thinner head gasket.

I read somewhere you have to "notch" the cyclinders for the larger valves of the 280 heads. The 260 bore is even smaller than the 240. When you change cams you need to replace the cam lash pads or you will void the cam warranty. That tired old motor is not going to hold up very long to all that bolt on stuff.
