how do I lock the Camshaft in place?
Hey I'm trying take off the timing chain on my L8et and I need to lock the camshaft in place. Do I buy a kit to lock it, or is there some easier way to make sure that it stays in place and the lobes don't move, etc...
Page 73 of the 280zx Haynes manual.... Where's your Haynes manual again?
You use a ~1" wide piece of wood between the inside edges of the timing chain to wedge the chain tight between the chain guides. Drill a hole in the top end of the wood & thread through a piece of rope so you can pull it out.

i was talking about locking the camshaft not holding the chain up. I got the head off but i'm going to have to wait cuz i took my middle finger knuckle off with it. Don't ask, I don't realy know how it hapeened
Ah. In that case, you use a wrench / crescent wrench on the square "nubbins" on the front half of the cam. There's not really any other way to "lock" it in place... Are you trying to get the cam sprocket bolt loose?

I said "bolt." I'm still trying to figure out why he needs to lock the cam.
