you are very strange tons of fun. how about this: do an experiment, drive the car hard enough with enouph upgrades to actually starve for fuel, then laugh about it, THEN get a better fuel pump. it will save you money.

you do realize that the carbs have little bowls of fuel in them right? this is to that they don't starve for fuel... so that when you are modified enouph to suck that fuel, you have a little excess of available gas right there. then it fills up fight after you punch it.

they're right man. Carbs should only need maybe 5psi from the fuel pump at most. Heck, i don't even have an electric fuel pump. My stock engine driven fuel pump flows more than enough fuel for my car, and i run it hard.

true that. now that i think of it, some of the most upgraded N/A carbed cars that i've seen had mech fuel pumps. you are in plenty good shape. don't waste that money

I suggest taking some basic auto classes before touching your car again. Or at least read some auto repair books.

wow. have you heard about that thing where you put sand in the fuel line to act as an extra filter? it just stays in a low part of the line...

just don't worry about that extra fuel filter. if you have so much crap in your tank that one won't work, then 2 will not help to prevent pre mature clogging. one filter is good enough to stop all the trash. 2 is rare, and rare for a reason

I have some crazy electric fuel pump in my car. I was so proud when I got it that it had a "racing" fuel pump. Then when I took it to a mechanic to get the fuel delivery working I had to spend extra money to put in a regulator to take the pressure back down again. And on top of it all the sucker is so loud that the hum is very noticeable at idle. Irritating as well, because when I turn my turn signal on the pitch from the pump changes. Drives me crazy.

I agree with everyone else. Leave it alone.

I run an electric, because I can rebuild it, and it will put out more GPH than the stock, which became anemic with only the triple weber carbs at continual high RPM's. Anyone know what the factory Datsun diaphragm style pump is rated for GPH?
Also, you gain easy control over your fuel with an electric pump. And makes for an interesting theft deterrent.
I can think of more reasons if I wanted. Like parasitic loss caused by mechanical drag and friction on the cam shaft, thus robbing power. Although I think that would be negligible. lmao
I have a Holley unit that will provide more fuel than I could use, and it's set up for carb vehicles. It is set at 7psi, and runs a hair higher than that, like 7.2. But, I have no overflow issues in the float bowls so far, so I have not put a regulator in. If I do, I will. But if I do, it's more likely to be a dirty float needle or seat.
