Cheapest and easiest way to increase HP??

Re: Cheapest and easiest way to increase HP??
NOS isn't that cheap and not as easy as they try to make it sound. If you buy it, you'll see that they "require" you to upgrade your igntion system to a pretty powerful one for best results.
I'd say make sure you have a manual transmission, drop in a lower geared rear and put on a K&N cone filter with the cold air induction pipe. Those are some easy ways to get some more torque and horsepower and don't require a lot of time or mechanical knowledge. From there you can have a shop put on a larger exhaust pipe from your exhaust manifold back. I'd recomend a 2.25" for your car and your choice of muffler. That setup will give you some extra power while also increasing low end torque. To get any more power you'd have to start opening up the engine and that takes time and money.
Your profile says you have a turbo 280zx. If so, there are many other ways to add power cheaply using your factory turbo.

Yeah i just noticed he has a turbo too !!! does help us if you tell us the type of car you have. For a turbo you can put on a 3" exhaust, block the pop off valve and run a boost controler and run around 10psi boost, better airfilter, high flow teh turbo, and get an intercooler .... should make a big difference

just get a threaded brass end plug and put in place of the valve. It wont hurt the turbo.... its just a fail safe for the intake
ive never heard of a shutoff valve

Trust also make an adjustable one under the GReddy brand. I picked up one for $20 from a Japanes importer here in Adelaide. It's gone on my FJ20 in preparation for the 'minor' boost increase that I have planned.

Re: Cheapest and easiest way to increase HP??
hey jesusfreakz, I sent you a private messges earlier and then came across this thread. If you'd like give me a shout and we can turn the boost up a little bit. Also, unless you're going to run a lot of boost, can shim the pop-of valve instead of removing it. That way theres still a safety device if you over boost.some where about $3-$5 should get you movin a little faster. Just depending on when I see some money I may be upgrading my intercooler this next year and I could sell you my old one with all the pipes and everything if your interested. Depends on how speed happy you are. I'm running 13.3's at 106 right now in the 1/4 mile and I've only got about $300 in the motor. With careful planning and waiting for good deals, I'm sure you could be in he same place.
