How to increase mpg?
#2
Larger circumference rear tires.
Taller final drive gear ratio. (lower number)
Remove as much weight as possible.
get rid of the a/c, p/s and clutch fan
Keep your foot out of it.
Smaller, more fuel efficient engine.
Buy a hybrid electric.
Walk
I gained .7 mpg from my k&n and freer flowing mufflers.

drive slow its hard to do, but its alot better on the MPG..... and higher gears like everyone else is saying.... or u can put an electric motor in the car that gets you up to 25 mph, then after that, the reg motor can turn on and take over jk.... leave that to the hondas.... but my only advice would to be dont take off as fast, ect... stay in higher gears, thats about it

Besides changing your driving style, there's not a whole lot you can do. A hi-flow intake and exhaust system will help a little, but most people don't buy this stuff to increase their fuel economy. Underdrive pullies will make a minor difference. So will an electric fan. These items are purchased primarily for performance gains. The fuel efficiency increases are minor, and for the cost of the parts, it's no generally worth it if you want to buy to increase your fuel economy. If you've noticed your mileage decrease, then you could have issues with your O2 sensors. You could also try changing the spark plugs.

Any increase in hp, which is usually an increase in volumetric efficeincy, will improve your mpg if you drive appropriately.
This is how we now have 200 hp, 2 liter four cylinder engines from the factory getting 30 - 35 mpg. This in comparison to a factory 2 liter carbeurated engine, from a few years ago that had maybe 80 - 90 hp and 25 - 30 mpg.

What do you guys normally get for mpg?? I rarely drive on the freeway(my work is about 6 minutes from my house)so I am always just on regular roads. I usually get between 200-225 before I fill up. The gas light has never come on before I fill up so I could probably go more, but the needle is usually on the "E" when I fill up.

I drive 3-4 days a week on the frwy and 1-2 days thru mountain roads with very little stop & go at either end. I get 23.7 +/-.1 mpg on a real regular basis. When I've let the kid out with the car to cruise the town I'll see 20-21 mpg. Also, I have to fill up every fourth day and the needle is just a little below a 1/4 tank. The odo is usually at 270 - 280 miles. (Quiz of the day ............ how many miles do I commute to work in a week?)
I use the mpg on all of my cars as a tool to monitor it's performance (running condition). If you watch your mpg over time, you'll actually see it start to drop off when your filters start to get dirty or a vaccum leak starts appearing......

When i fill up I usually fill about 13-14 gallons, which means I could probably get 240 to a tank(city driving 6 days a week). Now if the quote above holds true being 270-280 with a little less that 1/4 tank to go on 3-4 freeway days and 1-2 on non stop and go mountain days, I dont think 220 is too bad. Especially considering I hit 5 stop signs and 2 stop lights going to work and then all over again coming from work. So thats 10 stop signs and 4 stop lights. What does the factory quoted "estimated city mpg" say?

EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway)
Manual: 18 mpg / 24 mpg
Automatic: : 18 mpg / 24 mpg
Here's how you determine your mpg:
Drive to your favorite fueling place.
Pull up to your favorite pump.
Insert the fueling nozzle and fill until it clicks off.
Do not add more fuel. This is important for consistency. The gallons don't matter.
Pay for your fuel and munchies and beer
Re-set your trip odo.
Drive for as long as you choose. Hours, days or weeks. Just don't run out.
Go back to your favorite fueling place and pump.
Re-fill your tank just the same way.
Note the gallons added and the miles driven.
Then do the math.
270 miles / 13.71 gallons = 19.3654 mpg.
Unless you do it this way you're only guessing. Or you're running out of gas by using up your 15 gallons before you get to the station.
