Backfire - Why??
Just bought car. 260z has two Weber carbs and no breather or connection from valve cover to air cleaner. In addition, open hose from pollution control. 260z is backfiring when I "gun" it after I let off the gas at high speeds. Mechanic in PA says it is unused gas and I may blow the muffler one of these days.
Does it need a connection from the valve cover to the air filter? Why backfire?

you're running rich. When you go full throttle, you open secondaries on webers and dump an assload of fuel in the chamber, and not enough air. you probably feel a surge of power at high rpm too. when you let off, unburned gas ignites from the heat of the exhaust manifold, and that's your backfire
