Advice for buying '77 280z

Hi,

I am new to these forums. I found a project car '77 280z. The seller says that the motor and trans are out, but all electronics work. Body looks like it is in good condition. Comes with 10.5 fr500 wheels, new brake pads, new master cyl, and Megan coilovers. I'm going to go check it out sometime this week. He said it has 60K miles on it, and is selling it for $2K, saying he doesn't have the money to finish.

When I go see it, what are things I should be looking out for?

And is $2K a good deal, or should I try to get it for lower?

I appreciate all the help.

Thanks,
Sandesh

No pictures = No decent estimate
Also location plays a factor in value. Value increases as you go from Southwest to Northeast.
Unless there is a lot of documentation, you can usually call BS on mileage under 100K.
This may help you some: Common Rust Area's Of The 240-Z

Just realize that there are a LOT of red flags in the description you gave us.

Thank you very much for the advice. There are pictures, this is through Facebook marketplace, I just can't figure out how to upload them here. The car looks in great condition in the pictures, the body looks like it was just fixed up and is awaiting a paint job. Location is Arkansas. I will probably pass on this one, since the seller says the title is not in his name, although he has a bill of sale from the title holder.

Thanks again for the advice!

Yeah, more red flags.

While you're waiting on another to pop up, you might want to do some more research on the cars. It might help you from buying a money pit.

I have a friend who scrapped 3 Zs because he kept buying basket cases. I have another friend with tons of Z experience who bought a 71 (Series 1) from the original owner. Unfortunately, the car has suffered from a lot of benign neglect. That friend has several thousand into that $400 car and many more thousands to go.
