'78 280Z Rear end Clunk...not the diff mount.
try jacking the car and turning the drive shaft by hand one way and then the other. If you have a lot of play in between both directions, your ring gear and pinion are worn out. You should be able to hear a softer version of the clunk you hear when shifting if it is the rear end itself.
