Okay so I have a mostly stock 78 280Z. I would like to change the Ign. Module out due to it malfunctioning. I have been reading about the GM HEI swap and looking at wiring diagrams for it which seem mostly easy. Also I read most people use the "PerTronix" one Is this a good one or would a cheaper one make more sense?

My main concern is: do I need to open up the distributor and add an "optical sensor" or can I keep the stock 280z electronic distributor as is? Then for the old unit, can I just completly bypass it and unplugg it or is there reasons it needs to stay plugged in our rewired?

Also I do promise if I do the swap correct I will do a write up and have video to go with it. I notice most of the swaps are for the Z's with points distributors and Iv'e seen people ask about the 280s.
