Hei
A goooooood while back O posted about using a GM HEI system on our L28E's. I never got to test it. Now I'm back in the HEI systems. Since I don't have a running Z, I still can't test this, although a discussion on this is worth the effort for someone. GM HEI from 85-88, Fiero 2.8L 60degree V6. Uses 1 bar map sensor, IAT, TPS, Narrow Band o2, and Dizzy. Pretty much what the Megasquirt system uses(for those running N/A's) The dizzy's are the same internally as ours. 85-88 HEI can be programed for 2 and 3 bar MAP sensors(for turbo) and 85 has provisions for Knock sensor(for turbo). These computers control and adjust spark advance and retard(programmable) and fuel maps(also programmable). they can be had for under 100$, programing hardware and software for 70$. SOOOOOOOO why are we not adapting these systems, or even the 7730 ecu series to our L28e's? Yeh megasquirt has it's perks, and is a great deal for engine management. but GM HEI from the 80's is a good bargain, tunable and for the average Z owner, affordable.

...because a MSIII kit is $370 and has huge tuning potential. Why upgrade from a Civic to a Genesis when you can have a 370Z for the same price Or maybe it's more like upgrading your Atari 2600 with an Intellivision when you could have got a PS3 for almost the same price....

I would say use the z32 EFI setup over the z31 stuff, much more modern and has alot of tuning support, as well as ECU mods available up the ***, as well as being able to handle man sized injectors without much more then a tune. Plus you would be able to run a coil pack setup.

as far as the V6 and Inline 6. The ECU don't know the difference. Last I tuned with MS, it only asked for cylinder numbers. It, and the HEI are both Batch Firing injection systems. Only thing would be matching up the injector wires, with the ones that need to fire, so if #2 fires on the V6 when #4 fires on the inline 6, and #4 fires on the inline 6 when #2 fires on the V6, just switch them. If I had my Z going, I would test it. And for coil on Pack, the 7730 ECU will support that. As well the 85-87 will support up to 50lb injectors(with tuning) We've got guys boosting 450Wheel torque using these ECU's and the 60degree V6 still with 2.8l displacement
