speaking of mustang t5's, im guessing trying to put one in my z would be rather difficult from what has been said here? the junkyard has 2 going for 250 each, so im contemplating getting the t5 since they seem to hold up better.

You'd have to swap bell housings... and prolly lots of other stuff (input splines, driveshaft, mounting brackets, etc)... costing more than a 280zx turbo T5.

i was thinking about swapping my 4 speed for a 5 speed(for the 240) but i don't want to risk getting a junk-yard POS

why when you get a tranny from the junkyard its a good idea to break the housing off and look at it. i got a 5 speed out of a non turbo zx. it shifted great but i still took it apart and low behold i cant rember what they are called at the moment (but they look like little pieces of rice having a noob moment) where all in the inside of the tranny. anyway i had to put a rebuild kit. but i found just buying a 240sx tranny rebuilt and swapping over bellhousings is alot easier then pulling all the gears off and what not. the turbo tranny is weaker then a 240sx tranny which is the same as 300zx non turbo tranny.

Um... not the BORG WARNER T5. The T5 was used in 82-83 turbos only...

EDIT...

READ: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/BorgWarner.htm

This write up is intended to:.. provide the answer to the question; "how can I tell the difference between the heavy duty Borg Warner T5 transmission used in the 1982 / 83 280ZX Turbo from the Standard Nissan 5 speed transmission?"

Well, thats what I learned off lurking hybridz, lol.

The Z's used two versions of the BORG WARNER T5.

I think you've misread... click on the link above. There's tons of articles on the internet about the Borg Warner T5 in the 280zx turbo.

Ray... I think this hybridz thread is where you got the A & B idea???

http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread...ight=T5+tranny

#1... the original poster of that thread had no idea what he was talking about.

#2... Yasin was saying he has a Borg Warner T5 AND an N/A tranny aka "B series."

The regular NA Speed is generally known as the "B" series tranny and will handle lots of power (400hp easy, I believe Sustin 240hoke had one in his heavily mod'd L28Turbo), just watch those powershifts and clutch dumps and drag racing situations.

I have a T5 and a Bseries in the garage, I can take pics if you need a side by side comparo?

Regards - Yasin
