1975 280z to purchase, advice!!
Looking to buy a 1975 280z, has almost no rust...only spot of rust was in driver side floor pan and was cleaned and fiber-glassed over. The rest of the car has been sanded and just needs to be primed/painted (ill prime myself and take to get painted). The car is a 2.8 fuel injected 5 speed, all interior is there...minus carpet...which I would have replaced anyways. Also has good tires, new brakes, gas tank/radiator cleaned out, new hoses, 240z bumpers, and front air dam.
Got owner down to 6500, am I overpaying? Have been looking for a while now and this is the best I have found, condition wise....any help would be great!!

It sounds like from your description the car is a condition 4. Hagerty puts those at around $4K to $5K.
1. Take photos and post them. Don't forget to take plenty of the underside.
2. Where are you located? That affects the market price.
3. How badly do you want the car? The car is only worth something to someone willing to lay down the cash.
4. Research the rust areas for Z car.
5. What is the shape of the engine? Have you at least done a compression check?

If there was a rust through spot in the floor pan and someone used fiberglass I wouldn't be surprised if there was more. Get under the car and check everywhere. poking around with a screwdriver could uncover a bad floor pan. Is this going to be a restoration project, occasional weekend car, or daily driver? Are you planning to keep it a long time or sell it in a couple of years? New parts are cheap and they are easy to work on, but it still adds up even if doing a restoration yourself. 240z bumpers are a nice touch, especially if metal. Unless you are planning to sell the car soon, forget Haggerty. You are right, there aren't many rust free original cars out there in good shape that are for sale. Keep in mind, there aren't a bunch of buyers either, thus the lower valuation. You might be able to get the seller to knock off a few hundred more, but it really isn't much compared to what you are going to be spending to restore the car if that is your plan.
