1. 280zx
2. 81-83
3. depends on how much you get the donar car for
4. Exhaust....(?)
5. Basically the turbo 'gets' it's air from an exhaust manifold, then 'shoots' it to the intake manifold, its called boost, im sure you know all about that. So yes, the higher the RPM, the faster the exhaust exits, the faster the turbo spins, the more air gets boosted back into the engine. Its like a big pump to shorten it up.
You need to do A LOT more research before completing this project.

I second that opinion. You really shouldn't seriously consider buying any turbo parts without already knowing a lot about auto mechanics. Even then, you'll want to study just how a turbo system works. Once you understand that, you'll know that you can't just slap a turbocharger onto any car and go.
However, you do have two options that I would suggest.
1) Get enough money to pay a specialized shop to install a turbo and all the nessisary hardware and electroincs to run it. $5000 or so probably.
2) ask your dad if you could sell the 280Z and put the money toward a 1981-83 280ZX turbo. They are all set to go from the factory. you'll be pretty happy with that as your first car I think. Cost $2000-4000 depending on condition.
Read these web pages on how a turbo works. This is the stuff I read when I first did research on turbos. Then decided to not turbocharge my car!

hey thx alot guys my cuznss friend has two 240z's and two 280 z's one running noz, one running a turbo. one for work, and one in proces of completion. so i might go ask him as well just as a secong opinion i really value your opinions and all but u know just to double check.
Ya, that's a really good idea too.
Find out all you can about the turbo car. (I think turbos are better than NOS) See if its a 280zx turbo complete engine swap or if he pieced together a normally aspired engine and turbo stuff.
Find out how much boost it has and any other good stuff and post it here. Let us all know.

One other thing I had a 87 CRX SI, I use to race it at Sears Point in the late 80,s,and my 280 can smoke it with out much effort at all. You should research your driving skills along with you r upgrade options. A car is only as good as its owner/ Driver. I would personally take a N/A car over any singlre turbo car. If I was to get a turbo car it would be a 90,s 300ZX twin turbo. If you work on your intake and exhaust a nice cam and decent suspension upgrade you can do some amazing things with Z,s. That is why they are so special and popular.
The other option is a V8 swap this doesnt change the weight that much and give you gobs more HP and Torque.

yeah the guy i told u bout who had 4 z's came over yeasterday to my cuzns house and whe worked on my cuzn's Z wich by the way is having some bad carbs problems. hw might hook me up with some headers and some upgrade pars but hey like you sayd before ,,,,,, "The car is only as good as the driver" witch really got me to think i've only driven this car once and it semed like alot of power for me, so i mightz cut all the HP increasement and just make it sound buffer. HEHE
