slight knocking noise

slight knocking noise

I have a slioght knocking noise near the #1 or #2 cylinders after I drive the car for a while and gets nice and warm. it sounds like a chachachachachacha. is it my timing chain or somthing in the head? it sounds like it is near the front of the cam or near there, my dad thinks it could be the water pump but I think it is in the head somewhere. :-[... :yikes: help me please it has gotten worse a little in this first year of my ownership

Pull the valve cover and have a look see. That is about all I can tell you. The gasket usually doesnt break on the valave cover when you remove it.

I will have to go with your dad on this one. My brother has a 74 260Z and he called me up about 2 months ago and said he is going to have to rebuild his engine. I said why? It runs great , he said its knocking like a rod or valvetrain. In said bring it by after work. So he did and I listened to the motor run. Then I pulled out the exspensive engine diagnostics (a long screwdriver and held it to my ear) I placed it on the water pump and that was it . The bearing was going out and making a rattleing noise. So I would say check the simple stuff first! JOSH
