New member looking for help

Hi there,
as usual a new member looking for help.
1976 260z
Car runs for 5 minutes then stutters and stops.
faults traced to points being closed
Replaced points does exactly the same
points closed plastic cam driver melted
After much searching fault cleared by disconnecting rev counter.
Any body have the wiring diagram showing connections of both ignition and rev counter or experience with the same problem....
Many thanks in advance
Clive

First off, there were no 1976 260z cars. Production ended in late 1974 so you could have a 1975 260z but not a 1976 (unless things are different in Europe). A FREE great source for information is located here. FREE downloads of the S30 Factory Service Manuals.

There will be wire diagrams in the FSM

Actually there are 1976 260Zs. While the North American market got the fuel injected 280Z, the rest of the world soldered on with the carbureted 260Z.

@Mgwanderer If disconnecting the tachometer solves the problem, the resistor in the circuit has probably failed. The resistor should be located near the Transistor Ignition Unit (TIU) in the passenger footwell. It will be on a blue wire. If it is bad, you can replace it with a 2.2K Ohm 1/2 watt resistor.
