How can I tell what tranny is in my Z?
I have 74 260Z, which has 5 spedd manual transmission. I don't think it's an original, since 260s came with 4 speeds. It has SN# 7308873 How could I tell what kind it is or from which model of Z it came from? Thanks. G

Ok if you have an early 280Z 5spd or 260Z if you are in Australia, that car will pull around 3000 rpm at 100km/hr (110km/hr in my car is like 3100rpm) and if it is a 280ZX box it will do more like 2600rpm. My car probably isnt going to be spot on as it has a cam in it ...

Thanks for info. I was driving it today and looked at the rpms and speed, it was doing about 2600rpm at 60mph(~100kmh)in 4th gear, so I guess that answers my question. Thanks again.

mmmm... thanks for that one kori... I'll look at that next time I do 100km/h... i not exactly sure if its 3000 or 2600 around that... I am hoping its a 280zx box.. because i know for sure it isn't original
