Carbon canister service
#3
I'm west of Farming-town (kirtland). It has to be fumes from the charcoal. All lines are copacetic. The smell is unmistakably stale gas. The only source of stale gas is the canister. I verified stale gas fumes are in the canister, it's original gear. I know there's filter and valve parts for service. the only other service is replacement of the whole thing. I have carbon at work and if I have to throw out the OEM canister, I might as well bust it open to see if we can service the can at home, right?

I assume this is for your 280Z? You didn't mention the year or model so I had to search your prev posts.
Why not just grab one from a 280zx? Or go to your local Autozone and see if they have OEM / universal replacements.

Yeah, I'll bet many canisters are suitable. I am fixing to explore exchanging the carbon media first. Buying a replacement is the 'plan b'. I am talking about a 78 280z, but the interchange is for many years and generations. Thanks for the advice. I was asking for other's experience with tearing one apart. I mail-ordered a filter and after it gets here, I will pull the canister out and see if exchanging the charcoal is feasible before replacing the whole assembly. Any feedback on that plan?
