how much boost and power could a stock internal setup hold to reliably?
8 psi maybe? 260 hp maybe?

Welcome to ZDriver!

I assume you are talking about the 240Z L24 motor? There used to be an exhaust manifold adapter for them, but really rare these days. It would be much easier and effective to swap in a 280zx Turbo L28ET motor.

The stock 240Z L24 motor was rated at 151 crank hp. A 40yr old motor is probably planting 110hp to the ground. A couple tweaks & mods (the same thing you'd do to any motor), and you'd be to 150whp. Boosting a carb'd motor is not easy or fun, especially if you don't have turbo / SU carb experience. That's why many people just swap in the L28ET motor from the get go.

As in the 4.6L? A few people have done the 5.0 swap into S30's before... but a stock 4.6L would be a lot of work for not that much gain (210-240 crank hp depending on the year / version). But, it's your project, the sky is the limit (actually the green in your wallet is the limit).

I wonder if he's ever driven or even been in a 500WHP car, let alone a 2400 pound, 500WHP car. Hell my 300hp sbc 240z was almost too much.

They are XXR 526 Front 17x9 Rear 17x10. I have them on there as temporary until I get around to installing my ZG flares on the car. I'm planning a new rear end with a viscous LSD. The axles that came with the LSD are 5 lug hubs. With flares and diff installed Ill throw some 11.5's on the rear. As far as the motor goes I'd like to run a SR20 single turbo if possible. I'm open to suggestions for motors. That's actually why I registered on the forums

It never ceases to amaze me that someone can get exactly 500 or 1000horsepower not 493 or 1008. Seeing is believing.

Datsun 280z turbo 10 sec (Zperformance Racing) - YouTube
I believe thats in the 8'th mile though, still not bad for a 360WHP ish L28 though.

The beginning of the vid says 1/4 mile. You couldn't do 1/8 mile in 10 secs and 124 mph. This shows about 400 hp at the flywheel.

Didn't look like the 1/4 to me, but I haven't been to a drag strip in a while. Lets rephrase this though, he's in the high 10's (couldn't find a picture of his slip)

I remember when I had my R1 at the drag strip, 10.5 at 140mph, made a couple TT mustang owners with loud mouths my bitch.

"SEEING" is believing. If an R1 could beat that rag 280z by .3 secs it would be embarrasing, for the R1.

to be honest it wouldn't, crotch rockets aren't designed for drag racing, they are designed to take turns at speed and then accelerate out of them. It only takes about 400WHP to keep up with a liter bike.
