76 Driveshaft/U joints?
76 Driveshaft/U joints?
I read in the book that 75 and later driveshafts have non replaceable U-joints. Does this mean I must get a whole new driveshaft, or is it possible to somehow cut/weld new joints on there, or
who sells these driveshafts, if anyone? Or are yards/ebay the only source?
I have two new U joints in the glovebox, maybe that is why there weren't installed?
Thanks

if their is a little clip holding the u-joints in on the driveshaft then yes they can be replaced, if they have the little dog ears holding them in, then they are not replaceable without some serious work, if you have the non replaceable driveshaft type, find one from a 240 or 260 that has the replaceable type u-joints.
Yes '75 and newer...have pressed in u-joints. You have to take your driveshaft. To a driveshaftl shop..to have new ones put in. That is what had to be done to my '81..when my u-joints went out.

I am asking because the there seems to be a 'clunk' sound when trans is put into gear, which usually indicates u-joint or internal trans issues; hopefully the u-joints in my case... I just wanted to know if it is possible to change them because it would be stupid to have to purchase a whole driveshaft just to remedy the u-joints.
Thanks
