72 240Z no spark after pertronix installed
72 240Z no spark after pertronix installed
I have a 72 240Z. The car ran fine with the stock points in it. I installed the pertronix igniter several years ago and it ran way better than with the points. But alas, a while back it stopped running and I didn't have the means to put another Pertronix back in it.
Long story short, I started up the car right before doing the pertronix swap again, just to hear it run. Sure enough, it won't run. I've had 2 mechanics worked on it and it still won't run. There's no spark coming out of the coil.
We've tried:
a new coil
a new ballast resistor
connecting the pertronix straight to the battery
disconnecting everything from the ballast resistor that could drain voltage
checking the gap
Any ideas??? Please help, it's been VERY frustrating.
p.s. i read the other post about this same problem and he forgot to put the rotor in the distributor. Funny, but i put my rotor back in! THANKS!!!

Sorry I am having a hard time following you. The petronix is or is not installed currently?
If it's not installed currently, make sure when the points are touching, it's grounding out. This was my latest problem with points... the gap was fine, they were touching but the wire grounding the points was torn. It wasn't grounding them out when it touched so I got no electricity to my coil.
If it's installed, are you sure it's working? Maybe it needs to be grounded too? I don't know much about the pertronix system

Thank you Specially Spiked for your response. I was pretty frustrated when i wrote the original post, so what i wrote was not that clear. haha The pertronix is currently istalled. The 1st mechanic that worked on it after the pertronix was installed tried putting the points back in it and it still wouldn't get any spark. So he put the pertronix back in and still no spark. The 2nd mechanic looked at it the other day and tried many things. Still no spark...
