240 Slave cylinder

Has anyone heard of blowing the seals on the slave cylinder after putting in a new clutch? I have been through three. It seems that the travel on the push rod is too long and just pulls the boot off. Someone said this could happen (rarely) after shaving the flywheel, but it seems a new clutch disc would create slightly less travel if anything. This is on a '73 240.

It could be the clutch pedal adjustment. Make sure you have about 1/2 of free travel. If you don't, then it will push the slave piston to far.
