1974 260Z Questions

I recently put my antique firebird on craigslist and someone offered up a trade for a 1974 260z that is street driven and fully restored. I was looking for a project a little easier than the old firebird so I liked the idea of it. I was just getting a feeler for what kind of modifications can be done to the 260z. Can it be turbo'd even though its carburated or does there have to be some sort of engine swap to gain any real power. The car looks sexy, but I was really leaning toward an e30 BMW if there is no real way to boost power in this car without a major engine swap.
Thanks for any info,
Bob

Welcome to ZDriver!

Yes, the 260z can be turbocharged. The three main ways:
-Swap in a 280zx turbo (L28ET) motor... drops right in with some wiring mods.
-Locate a blow through turbo kit (kinda rare)
-Build your own turbo setup

And don't buy a BMW E30! E36 was when the 3 Series became worth while.

Thanks for the info. Are the l28et swaps difficult? Does the transmission have to go with them or will they bolt up to the 4 speed. Can any other nissan motors be easily swapped?

Check this (from just the other day): https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-260z-280z-s30-forums-9/280zx-t-into-240z-29589/

Also, we are totally willing to help you figure things out, but we also have a search feature which will get you to discussions other people have had on this topic in the 35 years of the 260z's existence.

To answer your question: All L6 motors will swap in & out of all other L6 engine bays, and same w/ the transmissions.
