Question Ball Joint Torque Specifications!

On the 76, there are two 12 mm bolts, and the two longer 14mm bolts which basically secure the ball joint to the "Track Control Arm" (Datsuns name).

My book is confusing! I found a supplier of 10 DIN metric bolts, but what are the factory torque specifications for these bolts?

I think the ball joints have been replaced at least once before, as I broke three of the 12 mm bolts in attempts to torque them to 44 ft./lbs.

Please let me know the proper torque for these 12 & 14 mm bolts!

Enjoy the Ride!

The tourque specs are dead wrong...or they meant to say "inch" pounds.....
I did the same thing once...I swear they said foot pounds...but there is no way you can get em that tight

Torque specs are based on the diameter of the thread not the size of the wrench. The thread size for your 12 and 14mm nuts are 8mm and 10 mm. The torque for a grade 8.8 bolt of these sizes are 9-14 and 20-29 ft lbs.

If they aren't, you should replace them with the 8.8, Napa has a great selection of Metric nuts and bolts.
