Hey all,

I think I stripped out my speedo gear in my '79 280zx (manual). Anyone have a spare for sale?

Is it a 2+2 or coupe? My understanding is they aredifferent. I have a 2+2 but the trans I had rebuilt was from a coupe and I'll have to change the speedo gear. The coupe gear could be available.

It doesn't matter if it's a 2seater or 2+2... it matters what the differential gear ratio is.

if thats blue and has 18 teeth that means it went to a 3.7. check your diff. i some 79s come with the 3.36 but its the 2+2 that had the r200 3.36

I pulled the gear from the two trannys and one is blue and the other is black. There is a visible difference in size also. Can I swap just the gear or should just leave well enough alone.

The speedo gear needs to match the correct diff ratio... if you want the speedo to read correctly.

According to the specs thread neither gear will be correct. The 2+2 has a 3.9 diff and the '79 coupe would be a 3.36. If the blue gear is for a 3.7 my speedo will be off either way. Is this correct? Sorry for beating a dead horse but I don't understand the whole ratio thing very well.
