Shipping Tires

Does anyone know what the best way to package a set of tires to be shipped? Do I need to find boxes they will fit in, or is there a better way to do it? I sold my factory tires to someone in Wisconsin and I need to find a way to get them there.

I know UPS will ship tires. I don't know what they require as packaging though. I have seen them shipped shrink wrapped in pairs with shipping lables on them.

Go to discount tires and get some old boxes. UPS is going to charge you an additional handling fee ($5 each on top of the regular charges plus a residential charge if your sending them to a home) anyway so you might as well box them up. I've see new tires shipped with just a UPS barcode on them. If your selling the wheels too definetly get the boxes to protect them.

Another good way to send big items is by Greyhound. You have to take the items to the terminal (next door to the Union Plaza) and the receiver will need to go to the bus station to pick them up. The cost is about half of what UPS charges.

When I ordered my Hoosiers and my Drag tires for the chevelle they just sent them without a box and then put the label on with packing tape. They all arived in perfect condition. Tires are tough. If they can handle driving then they can handle shipping.
