Local Place To Buy A Helmet

I'm enrolled in Phase 1 of the Evolution Autocross school this weekend. I need to get a Snell rated helmet. I currently have a DOT rated helmet, which I usually use for local events, but I'm afraid that they might not overlook that fact at the school. I need to get one locally because I don't trust ordering one online and receiving it by the end of the week (plus I'd like to try them on first.)

Any recommendations?

Don't buy a helmet without trying it on. They all fit different.
Dark Horse Racing is located at The Speedway.

Ask for Pam. She will hook you up.

National Performance usually has one or two. Thats where I got my RCI helmet for around $100. They are located on Charleston near Jones, just East of the CCSN Campus.

I used my HJC helmet (that I got from a bike shop back in 01 when I started racing) for the evo school

So do you use the helmets you bought locally for track events? On the S2k board, somebody pointed out that most tracks require Snell SA rated helmets, which are hard to find locally. I don't want to buy a standard Snell rated helmet just to find out that I need to buy another one to run at a track!

I have used my RCI helmet for every drag race, autocross, and track day I have done.

Most don't check helmets, anyway. They just look to see if you're wearing one, they don't inspect it.

WTF ? Let me know who you are doing track events with, and I will make it a point to be on the other side of the planet. If that is how they deal with safety issues, I don't want to be anyplace in the area if they have a problem.

The PCA and SCCA do check to be sure that you have a current SA certified helmet.

scoobybri - find out from the autocross school what they require. I would hate for you to show up at registration and try to sell the story that "Some guy on the Z Club web site said this would be OK."

Bri if you can get an SA rated helmet do so because many groups you run with will ask that you have them. Call dark horse they should have a couple in stock.

The evo school I attended didn't check my helmet. You have different instructors so I don't know if they will but I highly doubt it.

Side note: PCA/SCCA track days are the only ones I've heard of that actually check. Any others I've ran with (NASA, Speed Ventures, Redline, Dali, etc) all said you need them but never inspected them and just left it up to the honor system.
